Public Primary School, Brooklyn NY

A public school lot becomes a native plant classroom.

Brooklyn’s PS8 had an unused patch of bare turf and a passionate PTA. We worked together with a small army of 3rd graders to install a native plant garden surrounding a woodland gathering place.

The resulting garden is used as a science lab in which children can explore, as well as a classroom for quiet reading during English. Students held a ceremony for the garden, writing their hopes on ribbons and tying them to the surrounding fence. Among them were wishes of health for the garden and the dream that unicorns would move in.

I do one public pro-bono project a year. If you think you might have a project for me, please get in touch!
